For baking by weight, use the ounces to grams converter. But remember: cups and grams don't convert without the ingredient — a cup of flour (~120 g) weighs far less than a cup of sugar (~200 g). The grams to cups converter and grams to ml converter have ingredient presets built in, and our butter conversion chart covers butter specifically.

How to use this chart in a real recipe

Example: a US recipe calls for 2 cups of flour and an oven at 350 °F. Two cups of all-purpose flour ≈ 2 × 120 = 240 g on the scale — more reliable than scooping. And 350 °F is 180 °C (gas mark 4), or 160 °C in a fan oven.

Example: a UK recipe calls for a 568 ml carton of milk. That's the imperial pint — in US cups it's 568 ÷ 236.588 ≈ 2.4 US cups. Convert with the ml to fl oz converter or the cups to ml converter.

Frequently asked questions

How many tablespoons are in a cup?
Exactly 16 tablespoons in 1 US cup. And 1 tablespoon = 3 teaspoons, so 1 cup = 48 teaspoons. Our cups to tablespoons converter does any figure instantly.
How many cups are in a litre?
About 4.23 US cups (1,000 ÷ 236.588). In metric cups (250 ml, common in the UK and Australia) it's exactly 4 cups. See the cups to ml converter for any amount.
Are these US or UK measurements?
The volume charts below use US customary units (cup 236.588 ml, tbsp 14.7868 ml, fl oz 29.5735 ml), because most online recipes do. UK metric recipes usually mean metric cups of 250 ml — close enough for most cooking, but the litres to pints guide covers the pint that differs a lot.
How do I convert grams to cups for baking?
Use the ingredient's weight per cup: cups = grams ÷ grams-per-cup. A cup of all-purpose flour is about 120 g, granulated sugar about 200 g, butter 227 g. The grams to cups converter has these presets built in.
What temperature is gas mark 4?
180 °C / 350 °F. Fan ovens run about 20 °C cooler — use 160 °C fan for gas mark 4. The full table is below, and our oven temperature chart covers every gas mark.
