How the liters to pints conversion works
The converter applies pints = litres ÷ litres-per-pint. The UK imperial pint is 0.568261 litres, so 1 litre is 1 ÷ 0.568261 ≈ 1.75975 UK pints. The US liquid pint is 0.473176 litres, so the same litre is 1 ÷ 0.473176 ≈ 2.11338 US pints. Going the other way, litres = pints × litres-per-pint.
Worked example: how many UK pints in a 2-litre bottle of milk? 2 ÷ 0.568261 ≈ 3.52 UK pints. And a UK pint of beer is 0.568261 litres, so 4 pints is 4 × 0.568261 ≈ 2.27 litres.
Why two pints? The imperial pint dates to the 1824 British Weights and Measures Act; the US kept the older Queen Anne wine-gallon pint. The UK pint is about a fifth larger — so a "pint" in a US recipe is not a British pint. Match the pint to your recipe or your pub before measuring.
