mbps to mb/s Converter

Convert Mbps to MB/s and back — 1 byte = 8 bits, so divide by 8. Free, instant, no sign-up, full working shown.

Convert Mbps ⇄ MB/s

12.5 MB/s
100 Mbps = 12.5 MB/s (1 byte = 8 bits)

Formula: 100 Mbps ÷ 8 = 12.5 MB/s

How the mbps to mb/s converter conversion works

The converter applies MB/s = Mbps ÷ 8. Going the other way, Mbps = MB/s × 8. The factor is exact: one byte is 8 bits. Internet plans are sold in megabits per second, while browsers and download managers report megabytes per second — the same speed, two yardsticks.

Worked example: a 100 Mbps connection downloads at 100 ÷ 8 = 12.5 MB/s, so a 1024 MB file takes about 1024 ÷ 12.5 = 81.92 seconds at full speed.

mbps to mb/s converter questions

What is 100 Mbps in MB/s?
12.5 MB/s — 100 ÷ 8 = 12.5. Your plan is sold in megabits; your browser shows downloads in megabytes.
How do I convert Mbps to MB/s?
Divide by 8: MB/s = Mbps ÷ 8, because one byte holds 8 bits.
How do I convert MB/s back to Mbps?
Multiply by 8: Mbps = MB/s × 8. So a 12.5 MB/s download speed is a 100 Mbps connection.
Why is my download slower than my plan speed?
Two reasons stack up: the plan figure is in megabits (divide by 8 for megabytes), and real speeds sit below the headline maximum once protocol overhead and network load are counted.
Is MBps the same as MB/s?
Yes — MBps and MB/s both mean megabytes per second. The confusion to watch for is Mbps (megabits) versus MB/s (megabytes), which differ by a factor of 8.
