Celsius to Kelvin Converter

Convert celsius to kelvin and back — add 273.15. Absolute zero is −273.15 °C = 0 K. Free, instant, no sign-up, full working shown.

Convert celsius ⇄ kelvin

298.15 K
25 °C = 298.15 K (0 °C = 273.15 K)

Formula: 25 °C + KELVIN_OFFSET = 298.15 K

How the celsius to kelvin conversion works

The converter applies K = °C + 273.15. The kelvin and the degree Celsius are the same size — only their zero points differ. Zero kelvin (absolute zero, the coldest anything can be) sits at −273.15 °C, so you just add 273.15 to any Celsius figure. Going the other way, °C = K − 273.15.

Worked example: room temperature of 25 °C is 25 + 273.15 = 298.15 K, water boils at 100 °C = 373.15 K, and water freezes at 0 °C = 273.15 K. The calculator refuses anything below absolute zero — you cannot enter less than −273.15 °C or less than 0 K. For Fahrenheit, use our Fahrenheit to Celsius converter.

celsius to kelvin converter questions

What is the celsius to kelvin formula?
K = °C + 273.15. To go back, °C = K − 273.15. The two scales have the same step size; only the zero point moves.
What is 0 celsius in kelvin?
0 + 273.15 = 273.15 K — the freezing point of water.
What is 100 celsius in kelvin?
100 + 273.15 = 373.15 K — the boiling point of water at sea level.
What is absolute zero in celsius?
Absolute zero is 0 K = −273.15 °C. Nothing can be colder; the calculator blocks any value below it.
Why is kelvin written without “degrees”?
By SI convention the unit is just “kelvin” (K), not “degrees kelvin” — the word “degree” was dropped in 1967. Celsius keeps its degree sign (°C) because it is named after Anders Celsius.
