Convert brown sugar grams ⇄ cups
Formula: 100 g ÷ 220 g/cup = 0.4545 cups
How the brown sugar conversion works
The converter applies cups = grams ÷ grams-per-cup. A US cup is 236.588 ml, and brown sugar's recipe-standard weight is a packed cup of about 220 g — noticeably heavier than granulated sugar's 200 g cup, because the molasses coating makes the crystals clump and pack down.
Worked example: a recipe calling for 200 g of brown sugar needs 200 ÷ 220 ≈ 0.91 cups packed. The same 200 g spooned in without packing would be 200 ÷ 145 ≈ 1.38 cups — same weight, very different volume, which is why recipes assume packed.
Treat every preset as typical, not exact: moisture, brand and how firmly you press all shift the weight. When a bake has to be right, weigh with a scale — and check the packet, which sometimes prints its own cup weight.
