Convert cream grams ⇄ ml

Grams ≠ ml without density — but cream sits so close to water that grams and ml are nearly equal.
Presets
99.0099 ml
100 g = 99.0099 ml (at density 1.01 g/ml)

Formula: 100 g ÷ 1.01 g/ml = 99.0099 ml

Approximate densities: cream densities vary a little with fat content — 1.01 and 1.00 g/ml are typical. For cooking, weigh with a scale when it matters.

How the cream conversion works

The converter applies ml = grams ÷ density, with single cream at a typical 1.01 g/ml and heavy (double) cream at about 1.00 g/ml. Cream is the rare ingredient where grams and millilitres are almost interchangeable — the fat that makes cream rich is lighter than water, cancelling out the milk solids.

Worked example: a recipe calling for 250 g of single cream needs 250 ÷ 1.01 ≈ 247.5 ml. The same 250 g of heavy cream is 250 ÷ 1.00 = 250.0 ml.

Treat the densities as typical, not exact: fat content shifts them a little. For cooking, weigh with a scale when it matters — though at 1% or less, the error from treating cream as water is smaller than any measuring jug.

Quick reference

  • 50 g single cream — 49.5 ml
  • 100 g single cream — 99.0 ml
  • 200 g single cream — 198.0 ml
  • 250 g single cream — 247.5 ml
  • 500 g single cream — 495.0 ml
  • 250 g heavy (double) cream — 250.0 ml

cream questions

How many ml is 100 g of cream?
About 99.0 ml of single cream (100 ÷ 1.01), or about 100.0 ml of heavy (double) cream (100 ÷ 1.00) — near enough to 1:1 for most recipes.
What is the density of cream?
About 1.01 g/ml for single cream and about 1.00 g/ml for heavy (double) cream. The extra fat in heavy cream is lighter than water, which pulls its density down to almost exactly water's.
Is heavy cream the same as double cream?
Nearly — UK double cream (about 48% fat) and US heavy cream (about 36–40% fat) both sit at about 1.00 g/ml for conversion purposes.
Can I just treat cream grams as ml?
For most recipes, yes — the error is 1% or less. For precise work, use the presets above: 250 g of single cream is 247.5 ml, not 250 ml.
Can I convert ml of cream back to grams?
Yes — switch the direction above. Grams = ml × density, so 200 ml of single cream is 200 × 1.01 = 202 g.
