Convert flour grams ⇄ cups

Grams ≠ cups without the ingredient — a cup of flour weighs differently from a cup of flour.
Presets
0.8333 cups
100 g = 0.8333 cups (at 120 g per US cup)

Formula: 100 g ÷ 120 g/cup = 0.8333 cups

Approximate weights: flour weights per cup vary with packing, grind and brand — the presets are typical spooned-and-levelled values. For baking, weigh with a scale when it matters.

How the flour conversion works

The converter applies cups = grams ÷ grams-per-cup. A US cup is 236.588 ml, so an all-purpose flour cup at a typical spooned-and-levelled weight lands on about 120 g — other flours pack differently, which is why this page has a preset per variety.

Worked example: a recipe calling for 250 g of all-purpose flour needs 250 ÷ 120 ≈ 2.08 cups. The same 250 g of bread flour is 250 ÷ 127 ≈ 1.97 cups — same weight, slightly less volume, because bread flour packs denser.

Treat every preset as typical, not exact: a scooped cup of flour can weigh 150 g while a spooned-and-levelled cup weighs 120 g. When a bake has to be right, weigh with a scale — and check the packet, which sometimes prints its own cup weight.

flour questions

How many cups is 100 g of flour?
About 0.83 cups of all-purpose flour (100 ÷ 120). Bread flour is denser, so 100 g is about 0.79 cups; whole wheat is lighter, about 0.88 cups. Pick the variety above to match your bag.
How do I convert flour grams to cups?
Divide grams by the flour's weight per US cup: cups = grams ÷ grams-per-cup. With the all-purpose preset selected above, type any weight to see it — or switch direction to go from cups back to grams.
Why does a cup of flour weigh different amounts in different recipes?
Because measuring method changes the weight. A scooped cup packs flour down and can weigh around 150 g, while a spooned-and-levelled cup weighs about 120 g. That 30 g swing is why serious bakers weigh flour instead of scooping it.
How many grams are in a cup of flour?
Typical spooned-and-levelled values: all-purpose about 120 g, bread about 127 g, whole wheat about 113 g, cake about 100 g and rye about 102 g. Brand and grind shift these a little, so treat them as typical, not exact.
Can I convert cups of flour back to grams?
Yes — switch the direction above. Grams = cups × grams-per-cup, so 2 cups of all-purpose flour is 2 × 120 = 240 g.
