How the shots to ounces conversion works

The conversion uses the standard pour: 1 US shot = 1.5 US fluid ounces, which is 44.3603 ml. So fluid ounces = shots × 1.5 (US), and shots = fluid ounces ÷ 1.5. UK bars measure differently — a single is 25 ml (0.845 US fl oz) and a double is 35 ml (1.183 US fl oz) — so pick the measure above.

Worked example: a cocktail recipe calling for 2 shots needs 2 × 1.5 = 3 fl oz of spirit. And 6 fl oz is 6 ÷ 1.5 = 4 US shots — or 6 × 29.5735 ÷ 25 = 7.1 UK singles.
