Convert rice grams ⇄ cups

Grams ≠ cups without the ingredient — a cup of rice weighs differently from a cup of flour.
Presets
0.5405 cups
100 g = 0.5405 cups (at 185 g per US cup)

Formula: 100 g ÷ 185 g/cup = 0.5405 cups

Approximate weights: rice weights per cup vary with packing, grind and brand — the presets are typical spooned-and-levelled values. For baking, weigh with a scale when it matters.

How the rice conversion works

The converter applies cups = grams ÷ grams-per-cup for uncooked rice. White long-grain lands around 185 g per US cup, brown around 190 g, and basmati and jasmine around 200 g — grain shape and bran change how tightly a cup packs.

Worked example: a recipe calling for 200 g of uncooked white long-grain rice needs 200 ÷ 185 ≈ 1.08 cups. The same 200 g of basmati is exactly 1 cup — and remember rice roughly triples in weight when cooked, so never use cooked weights here.

Treat every preset as typical, not exact: grain length, milling and brand shift cup weights, and a heaped cup is not a level cup. When a dish has to be right, weigh with a scale — and always confirm whether your recipe means cooked or uncooked rice.

rice questions

How many cups is 200 g of rice?
About 1.08 cups of uncooked white long-grain rice (200 ÷ 185). The same 200 g of basmati or jasmine is exactly 1 cup. All figures here are for uncooked rice.
Is the rice weighed cooked or uncooked?
Uncooked. Cooked rice absorbs water and weighs roughly three times as much, so a cup of cooked rice is a different conversion entirely. If your recipe lists cooked rice, weigh it cooked and use a cooked-rice figure instead.
How do I convert rice grams to cups?
Divide grams by the rice's weight per US cup: cups = grams ÷ grams-per-cup. With the white long-grain preset selected above, type any weight to see it — or switch direction to go from cups back to grams.
How many grams are in a cup of rice?
Typical uncooked values: white long-grain 185 g, brown 190 g, basmati 200 g and jasmine 200 g. Brand and grain length shift these a little, so treat them as typical, not exact.
Can I convert cups of rice back to grams?
Yes — switch the direction above. Grams = cups × grams-per-cup, so 1.5 cups of uncooked white rice is 1.5 × 185 = 277.5 g.
