How the butter conversion works
The converter applies cups = grams ÷ 227, the typical weight of a US cup of butter. US butter is also sold in sticks: one stick is 113.5 g, exactly half a cup or 8 tablespoons — so the result below shows sticks and tablespoons too.
Worked example: a recipe calling for 100 g of butter needs 100 ÷ 227 ≈ 0.44 cups — just under 1 stick (0.88 sticks) or about 7 tablespoons. A whole 250 g block is 250 ÷ 227 ≈ 1.10 cups, about 2.2 sticks.
Treat 227 g per cup as typical, not exact: butter's weight per cup barely varies, unlike flour, but a cold, hard block measured by volume will read differently from melted butter. When a bake has to be right, weigh with a scale.
