kgm to Nm Converter
Convert kilogram-metres to newton-metres and back — for the older kgf·m torque figures still printed on European and Japanese specs.
Convert kgm ⇄ N·m
Formula: 10 kgm (kgm × 9.80665) = 98.0665 N·m
How the kgm to nm conversion works
The conversion is exact: newton-metres = kilogram-metres × 9.80665. A kilogram-metre (more precisely, a kilogram-force metre, kgf·m) is the torque of a one-kilogram weight acting at one metre, and standard gravity is 9.80665 m/s², so 1 kgm = 9.80665 N·m. Going the other way, kgm = N·m ÷ 9.80665.
Why kgm still appears: older Japanese motorcycle manuals and some European specs quote torque in kgm (sometimes written kg-m or kgf·m) instead of N·m. Modern manuals use N·m — this converter translates the old figure. For the imperial side, see Nm to lb-ft.
Worked example: a motorcycle torque spec of 10 kgm is 10 × 9.80665 = 98.07 N·m. And 150 N·m is 150 ÷ 9.80665 = 15.30 kgm.
Handy benchmarks: 1 kgm = 9.81 N·m, 5 kgm = 49.03 N·m, 10 kgm = 98.07 N·m and 20 kgm = 196.13 N·m.
